BBHA NEWS
Website
June 2, 2005 the BBHA is on line with the new website. We hope this will be helpful to members of the BBHA and create interest in new members as well as keeping everyone updated on news from Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site.
Cannon Committee
A committee has been appointed to study the cost and type of cannon that will be proper to display on areas of the battlefield. Updates on this project will be posted.
September 2005
The BBHA Board voted to purchase two reproduction artillery pieces for display at the battlefield. Ordered are a 3 inch Ordnance Rifle and 12 pound Napoleon smoothbore. The carriages will be delivered this fall and with the tubes arriving early in 2006. This will be a welcome addition to the interpretation of Bentonville Battlefield.
Also this month the BBHA will make a donation to the Civil War Preservation Trust. The CWPT is at this time purchasing approximately 231 additional acres for the battlefield. This will bring the total preserved acres to 873.
Reproduction Artillery Installed on the Battlefield
The BBHA purchased two reproduction artillery pieces to be placed on the battlefield. The 12 Pound Napoleon and a 3 inch Ordnance Rifle were installed in March 2006. These are a welcome addition to the interpretive tools we have at Bentonville Battlefield. The Ordnance Rifle was placed on the Morris Farm at the Confederate High Tide Tour Stop and the Napoleon was placed in the exhibit trenches across from the Visitor Center. Both have become popular for visitors to pose for photographs. Within the next few months interpretive signage will be install to explain the operation of the guns.
